Currently ousted from the Indian Test team, Shreyas Iyer is doing everything to make his case stronger. Despite being unavailable in the last Ranji Trophy game, the flamboyant batter has showed his class with a fiery hundred in the ongoing clash against Odisha. This has led Iyer scoring two back-to-back tons for Mumbai.
Shreyas Iyer knocks on Indian Test team doors
Shreyas Iyer last played red-ball cricket for India back in January against England. He played just two games in that series and has since desired to make a comeback. However, if he continues to perform like he has been, who knows Iyer could have another break in the Test team.
Talking about the ongoing match, Iyer hammered a 100 in just 101 balls, wrecking havoc at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in BKC, Mumbai. Iyer came to bat when skipper Ajinkya Rahane lost his wicket on a golden duck. Angkrish Raghuvanshi gave Mumbai a great start, missing his century by just eight runs. Iyer then stitched a partnership with veteran Siddhesh Lad, who is himself batting in the 90s at the time of writing.
Iyer had a splendid outing in the second round game against Maharashtra where he scored 142 runs. The batter has been participating in red-ball tournaments over the last couple of months as he attempts to find his way back to the Indian Test side. He made 172 runs in the previous two games in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. Prior to Ranji Trophy, Shreyas Iyer was a part of Mumbai’s Irani Cup tie against Rest of India (ROI) and the Duleep Trophy. Two half-centuries in Duleep Trophy for India D and a half-century against ROI ensured that the batter was in fine touch by the time Mumbai played their first-round Ranji Trophy match.
