ICC Test Rankings: Pant returns to Top 10 after 2 years, Kohli leaves top 20 after 10 years

Indian batters struggle in the recent series against the Kiwis has seen many top stars drop in the ICC rankings while not much has changed in the bowling department.

Despite losing 0-3 to New Zealand, a couple of Indian batters have made strides in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings. Rishabh Pant has gone up from 11 to 6 and might move past his career best of 5. The wicketkeeper was the highest scorer of the series, notching up three fifties in six innings. Daryl Mitchell made a huge leap as well, going from 15 to 7 despite scoring just 157 runs at 31.40.

Kohli matches his worst phase

Shubman Gill moved four spots, despite averaging just 36 in 2 matches. He goes from 20 to 16, while Team India’s batting stalwarts both take a hit as well. Virat Kohli has gone outside the top 20 for the first time in a decade. August 18, 2014, was the last time Kohli was outside the top twenty Test batters in the world. For those who don’t remember, it was that England tour where he averaged 13.4 in 5 matches with the highest score of 39.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has moved just two spots down, i.e., from 24 to 26 after his colossal failure as well. By his standards, Yashasvi Jaiswal had an extremely poor series, and therefore Harry Brook displaces him at 3, with one extra rating point. Despite scoring 256 runs at 51.2, Rachin Ravindra’s ranking has taken a massive dip. He’s gone from 11 to 21.

10-fer takes Jadeja to 6

There is negligible change in the ICC Men’s Bowling Ranking. Ravichandran Ashwin has moved down from 4 to 5 after a poor outing against New Zealand. His partner in crime, however, has made a small jump. Ravindra Jadeja’s 10-fer in the Mumbai Test has seen him leapfrog Nathan Lyon and Prabath Jayasuriya. The other two Indian bowlers in the top twenty, Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav remain where they were before, at 3 and 17.
