Indian Super League giants Mohun Bagan have been troubled with a freak injury crisis. The player is none other than their star playmaker Greg Stewart. However, there isn’t much to worry about for the Green and Maroon brigade. The Scottish midfielder is expected to be fit in a few days and is likely to be ready for the upcoming clash against Odisha FC.
Greg Stewart suffered a freak accident at his hotel and had apparently injured his leg. He arrived at the club yesterday, with his leg heavily strapped. But the Scot didn’t take any part in training and was spotted walking with a limp. However, the medical scans on Monday revealed nothing serious as the ace playmaker begins recovery.

Mohun Bagan currently stands second on the Indian Super League (ISL) Points Table, just below Bengaluru FC with 13 points from 6 games (played 1 less than BFC). And a lot of credit for the success of the Mariners goes to Greg Stewart. He has already raked up 4 assists to his name, joint highest with NorthEast United’s Alaeddine Ajaraie.
Nuno Reis to stay with the Mariners
In other news, Portuguese defender Nuno Reis will be staying with the Green and Maroon brigade. Dismissing contrary reports, a senior Mohun Bagan official told InsideSport, “Nuno isn’t going anywhere. He won’t be sent on loan during the winter transfer window. We need backup and he fits the bill. If needed and a situation arises, he will be brought into squad as and when needed.”
Nuno Reis was signed by the Mariners as the seventh foreigner in the team. Currently, he stands unregistered as ISL allows the registration of only 6 foreigners. Initially, Nuno was brought in to take part in the AFC Champions League Two campaign, where there is no limit to playing foreigners.
But with the Mariners not playing in the tournament this season, Nuno continues to train at the club, waiting for his chance to get registered when the situation arises.
