Mohammad Rizwan attributed Australia’s win in the first AUS vs PAK ODI, to “luck”, saying that fortune was with the hosts. Pakistan, who were playing their first ODI since World Cup 2023, lost to the Aussies by two wickets on Monday. After scoring only 203 in the first innings, Australia barely managed to cross the line, at MCG.
AUS vs PAK, 1st ODI
The pace trio of Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf were at their best, and troubled all the Aussie batters. But somehow, Pat Cummins kept his cool, to take his side over the finish line. Josh Inglis (49) and Steve Smith (44) strung a partnership of 80 to take the team forward.
In the post match conference, Rizwan, the newly appointed PAK skipper, took an indirect dig at the Aussies. “The luck was with Australia, and that’s why they won. We have always seen a lot of support for Pakistan. Haris Rauf bowled very well. We decided as a bowling group we didn’t want to go to the 5th or 6th bowler, try and use the four seamers,” Rizwan revealed.
“We decided whatever the situation, we would fight and show courage. It was good, this kind of match you can’t say anything. It’s difficult to read anything into this game. The result is in God’s hands, but I’m happy with the fight we put up. I was keeping myself busy with field changes,” he added.
Meanwhile, the second AUS vs PAK ODI will start on Friday in Adelaide, where Pakistan would like to make a comeback.
