IPL Auction Scenario: Ex-player Krunal Pandya should be on MI’s wishlist

IPL Auction: Krunal Pandya last played for MI in IPL 2021, and was bagged by LSG thereafter, for three seasons.

Mumbai Indians spent the most money during IPL retentions, on saving their star players — Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Tilak Varma, at a staggering price of 75 Cr. Now, with five players in, they have a few slots left to fill. Who makes it to MI, and who doesn’t, is a discussion for later, but there is a player that they should not miss out on.

It is none other than all-rounder Krunal Pandya, ex-MI player, who wasn’t retained by LSG. For the record, Krunal in 84 matches for MI scored 1143 runs, at an average of 22.86. Apart from that, he has 51 wickets in those matches. Having said that, the most remarkable thing was his economy rate, that stands at 7.36.

His performances for LSG have been decent too. In 43 encounters for the team, he has scored 504 runs at an average of 22. In those matches he has 25 wickets. So, he still has it in him, to play for MI. In fact, Krunal Pandya might not come as an expensive buy for them, as not many teams might be looking to buy him at IPL Auction.

MI had a poor season this year. They finished at the bottom of the points table where they could win only 4 matches, from 14. Under Hardik Pandya’s leadership, the team could not produce desired results. All this, despite them being five-time champions of the IPL trophy.

MI Retained Players

Jasprit Bumrah (INR 18 crore), Suryakumar Yadav (INR 16.35 crore), Hardik Pandya (INR 16.35 crore), Rohit Sharma (INR 16.30 crore), Tilak Varma (INR 8 crore).

Purse remaining for auction: INR 45 crore.
