Teams who are without captains ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction promises to be an exciting watch, as some teams will be searching for their new captain.

The first step in building a strong team is appointing a captain. However, as teams prepare for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), some have retained their 2024 captains, while others have released theirs, leaving them without a leader. These teams will now need to identify a new captain who can lead from the front, a task they’ll aim to accomplish in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Kolkata Knight Riders

One of the most surprising releases was Shreyas Iyer departing the team. He captained the champion Kolkata side in IPL 2024, but KKR has decided to go with a new skipper for the upcoming season. Whether Shreyas Iyer will lead another team remains to be seen. KKR could consider Rishabh Pant or KL Rahul, both of whom are set to enter the IPL auction. They’ll be looking for a captain who can elevate the team and defend their title.

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals need to make several changes to their squad. While Rishabh Pant is an excellent player, he might not be the best fit for DC as captain. Delhi has yet to win a title in IPL history, and they’ll be eager to lift one in the upcoming season. In the IPL 2025 mega auction, they’ll need to work hard to select the right players and build a balanced side with a strong leader.

Lucknow Super Giants

KL Rahul was an underrated captain for LSG. In his first two seasons as skipper, he guided the team to the playoffs. However, last season did not go well, and he was not retained. A rift between LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka and KL Rahul could also have contributed to their parting ways. Now, with KL gone, LSG will need to find a new captain.

Punjab Kings

With Shikhar Dhawan retired from cricket, PBKS will need to appoint a new captain. Entering the IPL 2025 mega auction with the highest purse of ₹110.50 crore, they have an excellent opportunity to secure their preferred players.
