CSK to use RTM card on Devon Conway or Rachin Ravindra: Report

As teams prepare for the IPL 2025 mega auction, CSK’s retention choices will undoubtedly set the tone for their campaign.

As the IPL 2025 mega auction nears, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are reportedly considering using their Right to Match (RTM) card on either New Zealand’s Devon Conway or Rachin Ravindra. A source close to the team disclosed to TOI that Conway has an edge due to his wicket-keeping skills, which adds flexibility to CSK’s lineup. With the retention list announcement looming, fans eagerly await confirmation of the franchise’s strategy.

Core Retentions for CSK

According to reports, CSK is set to retain key players, including captain Ruturaj Gaikwad at a substantial Rs 18 crore and Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana at Rs 14 crore. Shivam Dube, known for his hard-hitting abilities, will be retained for Rs 11 crore, while Ravindra Jadeja remains crucial to the squad with a retention value of Rs 18 crore.

In a move that excites CSK fans, legendary captain MS Dhoni will reportedly be retained at Rs 4 crore as an “uncapped” player, following his last appearance for India in the 2019 World Cup. “They are extremely keen to retain Pathirana, who is likely to play for them in the other T20 leagues too,” a TOI source revealed.

RTM Card Strategy: Devon Conway or Rachin Ravindra?

While Pathirana and Tushar Deshpande have been top retention priorities, CSK is also eyeing Conway and Ravindra as potential RTM candidates. The RTM card, which allows teams to match the highest bid made for a player, would enable CSK to retain either of these versatile New Zealanders.

“They might also try the RTM card to get one among New Zealand duo Devon Conway and allrounder Rachin Ravindra. Conway has an edge because he can keep wickets too,” said the source.

Building a Balanced Team for IPL 2025

The team’s retention strategy indicates a balanced approach of blending experienced players with emerging talent. By retaining Gaikwad, Jadeja, and Dhoni, CSK upholds its legacy and leadership, while the inclusion of younger players like Pathirana and Deshpande signals a long-term vision.

Fans Anticipate Final Retention Decisions

With the announcement of all franchise retentions today, the suspense builds as fans await CSK’s official list. With Conway and Ravindra in the mix, CSK’s approach promises a well-rounded team to tackle the next IPL season.

As teams prepare for the IPL 2025 mega auction, CSK’s retention choices will undoubtedly set the tone for their campaign. Whether they opt for the wicket-keeping abilities of Conway or the all-rounder skills of Ravindra, CSK seems poised to remain a formidable force.
