Glenn Maxwell has been an household name over the past few editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) when it comes to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The ‘Big Show’ has treated fans to multiple destructive innings in the past, emerging as one of RCB’s most reliable batter. Yet, a slump in form in IPL 2024 has led fans to believe that it was time for the Australian to part ways with the franchise.
Glenn Maxwell was bagged by RCB for Rs 14.25 cr in 2021. Maxwell, who was previously a part of Punjab Kings (then KXIP), had revealed how Virat Kohli had chipped in the idea of the Australian joining forces with Ab de Villiers and the latter in RCB during one of the international matches. He eventually went on to complete the move from a “toxic” KXIP to RCB in 2022.
Fans want RCB to release Glenn Maxwell ahead of IPL 2025 auction
InsideSport asked RCB fans which player they would like the franchise to release ahead of IPL 2025 auction. Well, the answer was quite unexpected. Majority of the fans wanted Glenn Maxwell gone, with some citing his poor form in the last season. Other RCB stars whom fans reckoned should be released include Mohammed Siraj, Yash Dayal and Cameron Green.

In IPL 2024, Maxwell managed to score just 52 runs with the bat despite being a part of 10 matches. This was the first time since 2013 that the Australian did not cross the triple-figure mark in terms of runs amassed in a single IPL season. With a highest score of just 28 in 2024, Maxwell averaged just 5.78, putting all the pressure on the other middle-order batters including Dinesh Karthik, Mahipal Lomror and Rajat Patidar.
However, once can’t underestimate Maxwell’s credentials in the IPL. With 154 matches under his belt, he has 2771 runs, 18 half-centuries, a strike-rate of 156.73 and five seasons where he has scored over 300 runs. It will be interesting to see which team will go after the Australian in the IPL 2025 auction. He has been a part of Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the past.
