IPL Retentions: PBKS could retain Shashank and Harpreet, Arshdeep could be RTMed – Tom Moody

Punjab Kings have a tedious task in front of them, before the IPL retentions, as they would have a tough time selecting players, who could serve them for IPL 2025.

Just about anything makes sense right now. Now, former cricket coach Tom Moody has suggested that Punjab Kings might use RTM for their main players from IPL 2024. “For Punjab Kings, I don’t think I would retain any players, certainly not capped players, but I’d be looking to use the Right To Match option for players like Arshdeep Singh, Sam Curran, and Rabada. Jitesh Sharma is another one I’d consider using the Right To Match for in the auction,” Moody told Star Sports.

PBKS Could Retain..

If one talks about IPL retentions, Moody suggested that the PBKS would want to retain Shashank Singh and Harpreet Brar. “When it comes to uncapped players, there are a couple of good players I’d like to secure before the auction: Shashank Singh, who is a solid middle-order power-hitter and had a great season last year, and Harpreet Brar, the left-arm spinner,” Moody added.

What is important to note is, PBKS had an ordinary season this year, where they only managed to finish second last in the points table. Out of 14 matches, they had only secured 5 wins, and lost 9.

Meanwhile, as per IPL retention rules, a team is only allowed to retain six players, two of them can be uncapped, and can use any number of RTMs. They will also have an auction purse of 120 Cr, and the franchises will have to name their IPL retentions by October 31.

Probable IPL Retentions

In all likelihood, Tom Moody could be true here. If Sam Curran is retained or RTMed, then he could well be the captain once again. Then, next in line would be Kagiso Rabada, Jitesh Sharma and Arshdeep. But for once, they would like to get their batting troubles away.
