Road to LA 28: As of today, no Indian women’s squash player makes cut for Olympics; Here’s how

Road to LA 28 is series by InsideSport, where we discuss India's medal prospects for the next Olympics.

Now that squash has finally been added to the LA 28 Olympics, that means it’s an additional chance for nations, as well as players all over the world to get their hands those medals. Unlike badminton and tennis, there are no doubles medals up for grabs, but only two individual medals — men’s singles and women’s singles, that the competition will be played in.

Squash Qualification for LA 2028 Olympics

Right now, no qualifications rules have been revealed for the squash at LA 28, but in all likelihood, it will be the top 32 players from men’s and women’s singles category, who will make the cut, with the a capping of two per nation. For example, if there are 10 players from Egypt, who are there in men’s top 32, then only the top two will make the cut for the Olympics.

Indians Who Could Make Cut

Well, the LA28 Olympics are still four years away, and a lot can change in that time frame. But as of, it would be interesting to see who all make the cut. As per the PSA World Rankings, India’s World No. 31 Ramit Tandon makes the cut. If we remove the nations who have more than two players in top 32, then it throws World No. 53 Velavan Senthilkumar into the mix as well, who is ranked 53rd in the world as of now.

As far as the women’s section is concerned, purely on the basis of current PSA World Rankings, none of the Indians will make the cut. Akansha Salunkhe is the highest-ranked female player in the country, languishing at World No. 74. 16-year-old Anahat Singh, who has a mighty bright future ahead of her, is placed at 100th.
