8 days left for PAK vs AUS series, “consultation process” for Pakistan’s new white-ball captain still ongoing

Pakistan are yet to finalize on Babar Azam's replacement as white-ball skipper despite being just 8 days away from PAK vs AUS 1st ODI

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is yet to finalize on who will be side’s white-ball skipper. With just eight days left for Pakistan’s first ODI in the PAK vs AUS series, the “consultation process” to pick Babar Azam’s successor is still ongoing. Reports had suggested that Mohammad Rizwan was the front runner but there is no official word or update from the PCB about it.

Pakistan yet to decide on new white-ball skipper ahead of AUS vs PAK

Babar Azam decided to step down as Pakistan’s T20I skipper following the debacle at the T20 World Cup. Since then, the role has remained vacant since Pakistan have only played Tests so far. However, with the 1st ODI scheduled to take place on November 2, it is imperative for Pakistan to name a new white-ball skipper soon, as the team is expected to depart for Australia in the next couple of days. PCB chief Mohsin Navi, who visited the dressing room to congratulate the team following the PAK vs ENG series win, revealed that the discussion over the new skipper is still ongoing and that the best man will be Pakistan’s captain.

Rizwan emerges as front runner to replace Babar Azam

Mohammad Rizwan is the first in line in contention to replace Babar Azam as the white-ball skipper. While reports had earlier suggested that the keeper-batter has some reservations he would like to express to the board about how captains were treated in the past before he decides on the offer.

Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif took to social media platforms to claim that the decision on Rizwan taking over as captain would be taken in the meeting between the star and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi.

The Pakistan cricket team is scheduled to depart to Australia on October 29, with the ODI series getting underway from November 4 followed by the T20I series from November 14.
