Things have changed completely in the WTC points table with unexpected twists and turns! India has been outplayed by New Zealand superstars. After losing the Test in Bengaluru, when India came to Pune, it was expected that they would make a comeback and dethrone the confident New Zealand side. However, things didn’t go well. New Zealand set a target of 359 runs for the two-time WTC finalists, but India faltered quickly in the second innings of the Pune test, especially after Yashasvi Jaiswal got out. India witnessed a massive collapse, and after 12 years of home Test series dominance, their streak of 18 Test series wins at home came to an end with this loss.
More than just the defeat, many issues came to the forefront, particularly their batting failures, which got attention, from Virat Kohli to Rohit Sharma, all of whom came and went in no time. Also, Kiwi spinners looked more effective in the match, and now India, who was on track to reach the WTC finals for the third consecutive time, is facing a difficult situation. See what changes came in the WTC points table after India lost to New Zealand in the Pune Test by 113 runs.

Can India still qualify for WTC final in 2025?
India now needs four wins from their remaining six games if they want to avoid relying on favourable outcomes from other teams’ Test series. Currently, India has one Test left in Mumbai against the Kiwis, followed by the ultimate Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. If they fail to meet these requirements, they will have to depend on the results of other teams to secure a spot in the WTC final. Much of this will depend on how other competitive teams, like New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka, perform.
