Failed in Bengaluru, the sword hanging in Pune, the Indian cricket team is feeling the heat after a not-so-good outing against New Zealand stars. India, who are currently sitting at the top of the WTC table, are looking to reach the finals of the World Test Championship for the third consecutive time. However, things are not looking well, especially considering how the Kiwis are putting the quality Indian side under the pump. So, what will happen if India loses the Test series against New Zealand? Can they still qualify for the WTC finals in 2025? Take a look at what the WTC table scenario says.
Can India qualify for WTC final in 2025?
After losing in Bengaluru, India is still at the top of the WTC standings, though their percentage has dropped to 69.06 after 12 games. India was in a strong position before the New Zealand series, where they needed just three Test wins to secure a ticket to Lord’s. However, if they lose the series to New Zealand, their chances of reaching the WTC final will get a hit, as they would then need to win four out of the remaining six matches. Currently, India has one Test left in Mumbai against the Kiwis, followed by the ultimate Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. But ff they fail to meet these requirements, they will have to depend on the results of other teams to secure a spot in the WTC final. This largely depends on how other currently performing teams, like New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka, play.
