“Funny game”: Morne Morkel fancies India’s chances of making turnaround in IND vs NZ 2nd Test

India bowling coach Morne Morkel addressed the team's chances of winning the game after being left in a dangerous position on Day 2 of IND vs NZ 2nd Test

India cricket team bowling coach Morne Morkel admitted that winning the IND vs NZ 2nd Test was going to be a tough task but did not rule out the possibility of victory. The hosts find themselves in a perilous position at the end of play on Day 2, with the Kiwis maintaining a 300+ run lead in the 2nd innings with five wickets left in hand. All eyes will be on Washington Sundar and the batting order if India fancy any chances of winning the match.

Morne Morkel feels India can still win IND vs NZ 2nd Test

Speaking at a press conference after the day’s play, Morkel remarked that the match was a “funny game”. He said that tough and tricky conditions will help bring the fight out of the Indian team and stressed for the need to believe in themselves.

We have to believe. This is a funny game. It’s going to be a tough task. When conditions are tricky and tough, you’ll see real people fight. Excited to see how they bounce back,” Morne Morkel said.

The Indian team was left frustrated on Day 2 as Mitchell Santner wreaked havoc on the batting line-up. Like Washington Sundar, the New Zealand all-rounder received all the assistance needed from the pitch, finishing his spell with seven wickets to his name. Once again, India’s batters faltered with no one barring Ravindra Jadeja managing to put up a decent score.

India’s gamble on playing Washington Sundar in the Pune Test paid off as the Tamil Nadu spinner has already taken his maiden ten-wicket haul in Tests and eyes to add more wickets to his tally. In the 1st innings, he bagged seven wickets and added four more to the tally in the 2nd innings.
