In preparation for an exciting summer of cricket, Perth Stadium has completed the installation of its much-anticipated ‘drop-in wicket,’ ahead of the highly anticipated India vs Australia 1st Test. This feat was achieved using a massive 30-metre-long, 40-tonne cricket wicket transporter—the only one of its kind in Western Australia.
Cricket returns to Perth Stadium
The installation of the drop-in wicket marks the beginning of a packed season for Perth Stadium. International cricket returns to the venue on 10 November with a Men’s ODI between Australia and Pakistan, which is set to light up the stadium with fans eager for world-class cricket action.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy will then take centre stage as Australia and India go head-to-head in the first Test from 22 to 26 November. Known for being one of cricket’s greatest rivalries, this clash is sure to captivate audiences, both in the stadium and around the world.
Season of Blockbusters ahead
In addition to the international fixtures, Perth Stadium will also host five home games for the Perth Scorchers in the KFC BBL|14 season. The Scorchers kick off their campaign with a blockbuster opener against the Melbourne Stars on 15 December, followed by the highly anticipated Boxing Day Bash versus Brisbane Heat.
These events highlight Perth’s status as a premier destination for cricket in Australia, attracting fans and top talent from around the world.
Perth Stadium unique wicket transporter
The star of the wicket installation is the impressive 30-metre-long, 40-tonne transporter, which moved the pitch into place. In partnership with HG Turf, the drop-in wicket was carefully positioned onto the Perth Stadium playing surface, ensuring optimal conditions for the upcoming matches.
This machine is the only one of its kind in Western Australia, making the process a unique spectacle.
