IPL 2025: Predicted retention list of all teams ahead of mega auction

We are a mere week away from knowing the retention lists of all IPL teams. We’ve been hearing reports of an ‘x’ player in talks with multiple franchises, captains not being retained, and someone being paid Rs 23 crore. These rumours or speculations will only be dispelled by 5 PM on October 31, the deadline for franchises to announce their IPL 2025 retention lists. We won’t add to these speculations but can predict what each franchise might do based on their requirements.

MI retention list for IPL 2025

Mumbai Indians/OneFamily is expected to lose one member. Rohit Sharma is unlikely to remain with the franchise he helped win 5 titles. After his removal as captain last year, it doesn’t look like the Indian ODI and Test would stay with MI in IPL 2025. They also have big names like Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav who are all worth being the top pick, and now might be the time to completely move forward.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have some tough choices to make. Do they want to retain Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, Will Jacks, and Rajat Patidar for Rs 11 crore or more? Which two of Yash Dayal, Anuj Rawat, Mahipal Lomror, Suyash Prabhudessaior, or Vijaykumar Vyshak should be their uncapped players? For a team considered weak, they sure have a lot of options.

Chennai Super Kings have it set. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, and MS Dhoni will be retained. The remaining three spots, well, one goes to Matheesha Pathirana, who was the best bowler in IPL 2024 after Jasprit Bumrah, and the second rather controversially goes to Rachin Ravindra over Shivam Dube.

Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel, Avesh Khan, Trent Boult, and Yuzvendra Chahal—all of these won’t be retained by the Rajasthan Royals. Why? Well, because they already have Riyan Parag, Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Sanju Samson. The question is, are they willing to pay Rs 14 crore for any of these players? We think not.

We’ve been hearing that KL Rahul won’t be retained by the Lucknow Super Giants. Assuming that’s true, they don’t really have many options. Ravi Bishnoi, despite being a great bowler, can’t be worth Rs 14 crore. Mayank Yadav would likely get Rs 11 crore, while Nicholas Pooran would be their top retention and could even be their captain in IPL 2025.

Sam Curran would likely be retained despite his slim return and Kagiso Rabada should find a place as well.

As for the misses, Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, Anrich Nortje, Khaleel Ahmed, Tristian Stubbs, and Mukesh Kumar won’t find a spot.
