IPL 2025: Shubman Gill could enter auction, Rashid Khan first retention for GT – Report

IPL Retention: Earlier it was expected that Shubman Gill will be GT's first retention, but as per a fresh report, he might just enter the auction.

There is no end to the permutations and combinations, as far as the IPL retentions is concerned. With regards to Gujarat Titans, many experts believed that Shubman Gill, their skipper for 2024 season, will be their first buy for INR 18 Cr or more, while Rashid Khan would be a certainly too. But now, as per a report in RevSportz Hindi, Shubman might well on be on his way to getting released.

That also means, Rashid Khan becomes the number one retention player for 18 Cr or more. This, of course, when a consensus is reached between GT and Shubman Gill. Whether eventually this is true or not is a matter for later, but is bound to change things for the franchise. For the record, he has been exceptional for the team scoring 1,799 runs at a strike rate of 147.70 in 45 innings.

IPL Retention for GT, No Shubman Gill

Perhaps, this could just be a ploy by Shubman to get into the auction, and attract a bigger bid. And from there on GT get him back through the RTM. Since, it would be difficult for the team to get a third new skipper in as many seasons. For the record, Hardik Pandya led them in the first two seasons, followed by Shubman in 2024.

GT Retentions With & Without Shubman

Let’s assume, that Gill is retained by GT, in that case, the team would also retain — Rashid Khan, Sai Sudarshan, David Miller and Mohit Sharma. In a scenario where Shubman is not retained by the team, then — Rashid will be the top pick again, followed by Kane Williamson. Sai Sudarshan seems to be making the cut. The Punjab player could be RTMed.

The players missing out will be Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Matthew Wade, and Vijay Shankar.
