No one really knows if Mumbai Indians will retain ex-skipper Rohit Sharma or not. There many contrasting reports in the media, with some claiming, that the legend will be retained in IPL Auction, while the others claim just the opposite. But to be fair, MI have technically no reason to not persist with the player, who brought them five trophies.
Rohit Sharma & Hardik Pandya Set to be Retained by MI
There was a speculation that all was not right between Rohit Sharma and MI, when he was relinquished as the skipper in 2024, and Hardik Pandya was handed over the reigns. But then, now, as per a new report in Sportstar, the India captain will be in MI once again. Not just him, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya will also stay with the Mumbai-based franchise.
It is believed that the IPL Retention of all these four players will massively impact the MI purse for the IPL Auction, but they remain the core players anyways. Plus, now, it also remains to be seen, what player will be retained for what amount. As per the IPL Retention rules, there are various categories decided — wherein the first and the fourth retained player will get 18 Cr each, followed by 14 Cr for the second and fifth player, and 11 Cr for the third retention.
IPL Retention
For the record, Rohit Sharma had a decent IPL 2024. He went on to score 417 runs in the season in 14 matches, including a ton, at a strike rate of 150. But one of the pressing questions for MI, before the IPL Auction and IPL Retention will be, who will lead the side. Hardik had a poor season as the skipper, where not only was he booed, but also could not help the team make it to the playoffs.
