“CSK or MI” – Jitesh Sharma on which IPL team he’ll like to join if PBKS doesn’t retain him

“CSK or MI” – Jitesh Sharma on which IPL team he’ll like to join if PBKS doesn’t retain him

Jitesh Sharma was part of the Mumbai Indians in the 2016-17 seasons but couldn't get any game time.

It seems like a no-brainer that a player would want to be part of the two most successful IPL franchises, the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The two teams have won the title 5 times each and have helped propel several players into stardom and the Indian national cricket team. Jitesh Sharma, vice-captain of the Punjab Kings (PBKS), wants to join these teams as well, but his reasons are slightly different.

While talking with the Times of India, Jitesh was asked: if not retained by PBKS, then which franchise would he like to join in the IPL 2025 season? The wicketkeeper batter was ready with the answer. “If you ask me personally, then I would prefer to play for CSK or MI,” said the 30-year-old.

Why Mumbai Indians?

Born and brought up in Maharashtra, Jitesh Sharma fell in love with cricket at the Wankhede Stadium. That’s the reason why he’d love to don the blue and golden jersey and be part of the One Family.

“I have experienced the MI atmosphere, and I love Wankhede because, as a Maharashtrian, it has always been close to my heart. During my younger days, I watched matches at Wankhede and sat outside, feeling the vibe. I want to experience that feeling while playing inside the stadium for the Mumbai Indians,” Jitesh stated.

Thala not the only reason

As a wicketkeeper batter, it isn’t a shock that MS Dhoni is Jitesh Sharma’s idol. However, that’s just one of two reasons why he wants to join CSK. Although four years his senior, Jitesh is good friends with Ruturaj Gaikwad, captain of CSK. So joining the Yellow Army would be like killing two birds with one stone.

“I would like to play for Chennai Super Kings because of Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) and because Ruturaj Gaikwad is my good friend, and I enjoy playing under him the same way I enjoy playing under Surya (Suryakumar Yadav) bhai,” he concluded.
