The Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team went on to register a thrilling 6-4 win over Great Britain in the Sultan of Johor Cup. India registered their second consecutive win in the tournament as they clinched a hard-fought win over the Britons in a 10-goal encounter.
India opened its account with a win over Japan and then continued its winning run. Mohd Konain Dad (7′), Dilraj Singh (17′, 50′), Sharda Nand Tiwari (20′, 50′) and Manmeet Singh (26′) scored for the young Indians. On the other hand, Rory Penrose’s (2′, 15′), Michael Royden (46′, 59′) scored for the Britons.
India flies high after a big win
India made a sensational comeback in their clash against Great Britain in front of a huge crowd of fans. India went down early. Britain’s Rory Penrose capitalized on a defensive lapse to take a 1-0 lead after just 2 minutes on the clock. But India came back strongly, as Mohd Konain Dad equalized from the Penalty Corner.
Rory Penrose again found his name on the scoresheet in the 15th minute when he scored his brace of the game from a Penalty corner. But as has been the case before, India found their equalizer in the 17th minute via Dilraj. And then for the first time in the game, India took the lead in the 20th minute via a penalty corner from Sharda Nand Tiwari.
Manmeet then helped India take a 4-2 lead as India dominated the quarter. Britan made a comeback to make it 4-3 before India continued their routing to take the scoreline 6-3. Michael Royden scored his brace but failed short as the young Indian guns sealed off a thrilling encounter.
