Rishabh Pant and his nervous 90s struggles! Southpaw’s record will shock you

Not once, or twice, and a total of seven times, Pant has touched 90 but couldn't reach the magical three figures. See the full list of instances when this Indian superstar wicketkeeper came close to scoring 100 but couldn't stamp.

Rishabh Pant came and impressively conquered the Bengaluru crowd with his eye-catching innings, where he thumped the Kiwi bowlers and crossed difficult lines. Once again showcased his caliber, setting records as the fastest Indian wicketkeeper to reach 2,500 runs in Test cricket, and he is steadily climbing the ranks in run-scoring. However, what left him and his fans hurting was the score of 99. Yes, that’s correct—after playing a brilliant 99 runs off 105 balls against the Black Caps, he got out, facing the dreaded “nervous nineties” once again as he fell to William O’Rourke. Pant missed out on his seventh Test hundred, in the first Test against New Zealand on Saturday, Day 4. And unfortunately, this is not the very first time this has happened to him. See the full list of times when Pant reached the milestone but failed to convert it into a ton by the barest of margins.

7 90+ scores but failed to walk pass to get that magical three figures. Pant has a total of 6 Test hundreds and 7 scores in the 90s in the longest format. If he had converted those, his tally would have stood at 13, which could have made an impressive stat for this young, stylish wicketkeeper.

Instances when Rishabh Pant just missed a Test century!

As mentioned, not once, not twice, but seven times in total. It all started in 2018 against the West Indies in Rajkot, where he made 92. The next instance happened in Hyderabad, where he again passed the 90s target but, while trying to play aggressively, lost his wicket. Then, in the historic Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 series in Australia, Pant scored 97 runs while chasing a daunting target of 407. Later that year in Chennai, he scored 91 off just 88 balls, counterattacking in a tough situation against England. His 97 against Sri Lanka in Mohali in 2022 gave us explosive batting, but he fell just short again, and was visibly dejected after being bowled while trying to defend. Now, the blow against the Kiwis has also joined the list.
