Will Australia face burnout leading upto BGT? 5 Tests in 7 weeks poses risk to star pacers

India vs Australia Test: Australia Cricket Team faces huge trouble in burnout of ace pacers courtesy of hectic BGT schedule

India and Australia are set to lock horns in the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy. But the Australia Cricket Team are in for a hectic schedule where they would be playing 5 Test matches in just 7 weeks. And with injuries and fatigue, the pacers are likely to be heavily depleted for the 5th Test match in the series.

Cameron Green is already ruled out after suffering his fifth stress fracture. The classy all-rounder will undergo the knife and will be missing the entire summer. Meanwhile, the hectic schedule leading to the BGT and then the series itself will be a huge trouble for the veteran pace lineup of Australia.

Fatigue – A huge problem for Aussie Pacers

“There’s certainly times where you feel the grind of five Tests. There can be [exhaustion]. It just depends on how many days you are in the field, how many overs you’ve bowled … Whether you change your attack or your team as the series goes on is dictated by how the Tests go throughout the summer, how blokes’ bodies are handling it and how the results go, as well,” Mitchell Starc told Sydney Morning Herald.

Adding to the uncertainty is no one knows how the pitch will be behaving. This prompted Starc to say, “We don’t know what wickets we’ll get. We don’t know how successful or unsuccessful we will be.”

If each of the 5 Test matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy concludes on the fifth day, then the fatigue of the players is bound to be extreme. In such a case, Australia will have to keep rotating their squad, especially the pacers. Furthermore, none of the match can also be taken lightly, as it will guarantee both sides to reach the WTC Finals.
