Rachin Ravindra ready to take over from Kane Williamson, scores century in Bengaluru Test

Rachin Ravindra scored a brilliant century against India in the Bengaluru Test, getting his first ton in India.

New Zealand batter Rachin Ravindra has achieved his second century in Test cricket, batting at number four. He reached the three-figure mark on Day 3 of the first Test against India at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Ravindra’s remarkable innings came when the Kiwis were struggling at 204/5 early on Day 3, helping the team surpass the 300-run mark. This century marks his first Test ton in Asia.

Stepping pp in Kane Williamson’s absence

Ravindra took the field in place of Kane Williamson, New Zealand’s legendary batter and 34-year-old captain, who missed the match due to a groin strain sustained against Sri Lanka. With Williamson’s career nearing its end, Ravindra is making his mark with such essential innings to establish himself as a key player for New Zealand in the future.

Ravindra’s impact on New Zealand’s Innings

After finishing Day 2 at 180/3, having bowled India out for a mere 46, New Zealand faced a challenging start on Day 3 with the loss of two quick wickets. However, Ravindra’s impressive innings provided much-needed stability. Despite pressure from Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, he maintained his scoring pace, reaching his century in just 124 balls during the 80th over.

A Promising start to his Test career

Since making his Test debut in 2021, Ravindra has notched up his second century, alongside three half-centuries. In just 10 Tests, he has accumulated over 750 runs at an average exceeding 42. Domestically, he has scored 466 runs in five Tests at an average of 46.60. His century in Bengaluru also marks his first Test ton in Asia.
