Will the LIVE streaming of 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) be available on Reliance Jio or not ? Will Star India’s Disney+ Hotstar renew their agreement with Jio or not ? Will IPL fans get to see the IPL 2020 streaming for free or will they have to pay to enjoy the IPL ?

All these queries are leaving IPL fans confused as neither Disney+ Hotstar or Reliance Jio are ready to officially speak about the LIVE Streaming arrangement for the IPL 2020.

According to a new report by 91Mobiles, JIO and Star India have finally come on the same page for the streaming deal on IPL 2020.

The report claims that two companies have come to an agreement that will allow subscribers of select Jio mobile plans to watch IPL 2020 for free. Moreover, all but one JioFiber plan will give users the same free IPL 2020 streaming.

The deal is important for the reach of IPL 2020. The IPL in 2019 delivered phenomenal numbers on digital streaming on Hotstar. The streaming platform had claimed that they have crossed 300Mn viewers and registered a 74% increase in watch time in comparison to IPL 2018 edition. Not only this, the finals of IPL 2019 between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai created a record of sorts as it delivered 18.6 million concurrent users.

According to the industry experts most of this reach came on the back of Hotstar’s back to back agreement with JioTV. It is worth noting that though Hotstar was charging its customers after 5minutes of free viewing time, JioTV allowed free IPL streaming to its subscribers as they paid lump-sump fee to Star India for the IPL 2019 streaming rights.

The report quoting the industry sources claimed Jio plans priced at Rs 401 and Rs 2,599 will provide users with access to free IPL 2020 streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.

The Rs 401 Jio plan provides users with up to 90GB data, with 3GB data per day for 28 days and an extra 6GB on top of the daily limit. It also gives free calling within JIO network and 1,000 calling minutes to other networks, 100 SMSes per day, and complimentary access to premium Jio apps like Jio Cinema, Jio TV, Jio Saavn, JioNews, and others.

The Rs 2,599 annual Jio plan comes with 2GB data per day for 365 days and an additional 10GB over and above the daily limit, totalling 740GB in all over the 12-month period. Along with that, it gives a complimentary one-year subscription to Disney+ Hotstar, free calling within Jio network, 12,000 calling minutes to other networks, 100 SMSes per day, free access to Jio apps like Jio Cinema, Jio TV, Jio Saavn, JioNews and others.

In addition to the mobile plans, JioFiber plans priced Rs 849 and above come with free IPL 2020 streaming thanks to the complimentary annual subscription to Disney+ Hotstar VIP content that the plans offer.

IPL 2020 : Why Jio – Disney+ Hotstar deal is important for IPL 2020 viewers ?

The IPL in 2019 delivered 300Mn viewers and registered a 74% increase in watch time in comparison to IPL 2018 edition. According to the industry experts most of this reach came on the back of Hotstar’s back to back agreement with JioTV.

It is worth noting that though Hotstar charges its customers after 5minutes of free viewing time, JioTV allowed free IPL streaming to its subscribers.

Most of the growth in digital reach of IPL has been attributed to JIO’s free IPL streaming service to its subscribers.

To maintain or grow the IPL digital reach and consumers, understanding between Jio & Star is of paramount importance. As IPL 2020 is now almost a month away it is also important that this understanding is now made official so that IPL fans can breathe little easy.
