“Rohit Sharma ke liye 20 crore..”: R Ashwin has IPL Auction mantra for RCB

IPL 2025: R Ashwin has made it clear, if RCB has to bag Rohit Sharma in the IPL Auction, then the team should be ready to shell out over INR 20 Cr.

There has been a lot of speculation around, if Rohit Sharma will be retained by MI or nor, for IPL 2025. Even before that has happened, fans have gone ahead to speculate Rohit’s shocking move to RCB. Some have even gone on to claim that the current India skipper can go on to lead his new potential team.

In a video on his channel, R Ashwin spoke on the issue, while addressing the queries of fans. It must be noted, that Rohit was removed from captaincy before the start of IPL 2024, while Hardik Pandya was preferred. Under the latter, MI finished in the latter half of the points table.

Ashwin made it clear, if at all, if the move was to be possible, he would cost a bomb to the franchise. “Agar Rohit Sharma ke liye aap jaa rahe hai to 20 crore rakhna padega (You need to keep 20 crores with yourself if you want to sign up Rohit Sharma),” Ashwin said during a discussion on his YouTube channel.

In 2024, Rohit had a decent campaign with the bat, as he scored 417 runs in 14 matches. That also included a ton, at an average of 32. Most importantly, his strike rate was 150, that would be in consideration for teams willing to buy the player. But his previous years weren’t the best.

In 2023, he scored 332 runs in 16 matches, at an average of only 20. That only had two fifties. When it comes to 2022, in 14 matches, the Mumbai veteran had scored 268 runs at an average of 19. As per the IPL rules, each team is only allowed to retain six players, including RTMs, If a team goes for six retentions, then only five of them can be capped players, with a maximum of 2 uncapped players.
