Joe Root reaches new high as World No.1 batter, Harry Brook joint second after PAK demolition

While Harry Brook and Joe Root ruled the roost in ICC rankings for Test batsmen, Jasprit Bumrah and R Ashwin continued to be the best bowlers.

After an excellent outing versus Pakistan in the first Test at Multan, England batters Joe Root and Harry Brook have gained big in the ICC rankings for Test batsmen. Former England skipper Root, after slamming 262 in a winning cause, recorded a rating of 932 to be top of the pile, attaining the fourth-highest points for the nation ever.

Well Done, Harry Brook-Joe Root

On the other hand, Brook, the triple centurion from the match, has moved up 11 places to be joint-second, along with Kiwi Kane Williamson. The duo have 829 points each as per the latest ICC rankings. As far as the bowlers are concerned, India’s Jasprit Bumrah and R Ashwin occupy the top two positions in Tests, with only one points separating them (870 and 869).

As for the Pakistani batsmen, the three centurions from the Multan match too have progressed in the rankings. Salman Ali Agha is up one place to a career-best 22nd position, followed by captain Shan Masood at 51st and Abdullah Shafique to the 39th position.

Unfortunately, India opener and consistent scorer, Yashasvi Jaiswal has fallen a spot to number fourth, despite doing fairly well in the recently concluded Bangladesh Test series, that India won 2-0. Rishabh Pant continued to stay at No. 9 in the Test batters’ rankings.

Nitish Reddy and Sanju Samson Make Rapid Gains

In fact, in the all-rounders’ category, Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin are at 1 & 2, respectively. There were a few movements in the T20I rankings as well. After a splendid innings of 111 from 47 deliveries in the IND vs BAN third T20I, Sanju Samson has leapfrogged to 65th position in the rankings for batters. Nitish Kumar Reddy is up 255 places to 72nd.

Not just that, Rinku Singh has gone up 22 places to be 43rd in the world, followed by Hardik Pandya at 59th, after moving four rungs.
