Kerala keeper-batter Sanju Samson opened up on his red-ball cricket ambitions and expressed his desire to play Tests for India. Samson will return to domestic cricket and is expected to lead Kerala in their second match of the ongoing Ranji Trophy. Having spent more time warming the bench more than on the field for the national side, Samson is now keen to make most of the opprunities he gets and is now eyeing to enter the Test team too.
Sanju Samson wants to play Test cricket
Sanju Samson recently slammed his maiden T20I century in IND vs BAN 3rd T20I, also becoming the Indian to smash the fastest ton. The Kerala keeper-batter’s chances of making it to India’s Test squad is pretty low, given that Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel are clearly the preferred keepers. However, it doesn’t stop Sanju from dreaming about a spot in the side. He recealed that the leadership group had advised him to take red-ball cricket and play consistently as he was under their consideration.
“I believe I have the skill set to succeed in red-ball cricket and I just don’t want to restrict myself to white-ball cricket. My desire is to play Test cricket for India. Before the Duleep Trophy, the leadership group had told me that they were considering me for red-ball cricket and asked me to take it seriously and play more Ranji Trophy matches,” Sanju Samson said.
