Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium boasts one of the best drainage systems in India. Chinnaswamy Stadium has SubAir system installed by the Karnataka State Cricket Association in 2017. This advanced sub-surface powered drainage system allows the ground to be match-ready within just 15 minutes after rain stops, no matter how heavy the downpour. The system costed around Rs 4.25 crore, according to a report in Sportstar.
The SubAir system works by extracting water through super-absorption pipes at a rate of over 10,000 liters per minute, starting as soon as it begins raining. Remote sensors installed in the field activate the technology. Additionally, the aeration feature of the system creates an ideal growing environment for the root zone, reducing turf diseases, algae, excessive thatch, and black layers. It also helps lower the surface temperature, providing more comfort for players on the field.
