India women’s Cricket Team to rely on Pakistan to reach semi finals of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup

India Women Cricket Team's only hopes of making ICC T20 World Cup semi finals now reliant on Pakistan beating New Zealand

The India Women’s Cricket Team‘s chances of making it to the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup now hangs on the shoulders of the Pakistan Cricket Team. While the two sides share a great rivalry, now the Women in Blue will have to pray dearly and hope the Women in Green can beat the White Ferns.

India has had a half-decent campaign in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. They lost their opening game to New Zealand, but then recovered by beating Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The job was nearly done as Harmanpreet Kaur and Co needed a win against Australia in their last group stage game.

But as fate would have it, the Women in Blue lost the game by 10 runs despite being in a strong position in the 152-run chase. As things stand, India is placed in the second spot while the White Ferns occupy the third spot. But New Zealand have a game in hand. A win over Pakistan will see New Zealand heading through to the semis with 6 points.

Now only Pakistan and New Zealand have a game in hand. Pakistan too has a chance of making it to the semi-finals, but for that, they would need a huge win where they need to increase their NRR substantially. On the other hand, a loss for the Kiwis is the only result that will work in favor of the Indians.

This would mean both sides would remain level on points. And as India have a slightly greater NRR than the White Ferns, thus India would be relying on their arch-rivals to beat New Zealand, so as to reach the semi finals of the tournament.
