IND vs AUS Tests: Australia's worst fear comes true, Cameron Green to miss Border Gavaskar Trophy after opting for surgery

The Australia Cricket Team has been dealt a massive blow. Star all-rounder Cameron Green has been ruled out of the entire India vs Australia Tests, aka the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Green is set to be out of action for at least a span of 6 months, making him miss the IND vs AUS Tests and potentially the ICC Champions Trophy.

Previously reports emerged that Green was at risk of missing out on the tournament. Some even suggested that Green would take part in the crucial Border Gavaskar Trophy as a batter. But that won’t be the case. Green is set to go under the knife on his lower back after suffering his fifth stress fracture.

Cameron Green opts for Surgery

It is understood that the 25-year-old all-rounder is set to take around 6 months to recover from his injury. While his presence is of utmost importance to the Australia Cricket Team, the player decided to prioritize his injury to avoid any reoccurrence of the same injury in the future.

Cameron Green suffered the injury while playing against England in the recently concluded ODI series. And now Green is set to miss the entire summer which includes the crucial Border Gavaskar Trophy, tour of Sri Lanka, and the ICC Champions Trophy. It however remains to be seen if he recovers in time for the WTC Finals, IPL, and tour of the West Indies.

The Aussies will be in a state of bother with their star all-rounder ruled out. Furthermore, the stress fracture is a recurring injury for Green who has previously suffered a similar injury four times.

“Cam has a unique defect in an adjacent area to the fracture that is believed to be contributing to the injury. After thorough consultation it was determined Cameron would benefit from the surgery to stabilise the defect and reduce the risk of future recurrence,” read the statement by Cricket Australia.
