The Hockey India League is set to be a major event in India’s hockey scene, making a comeback after a seven-year hiatus. Scheduled to start in the last week of December this year and continue until February, the tournament promises to be even more exciting than before. Originally launched in 2013 with a double round-robin format, the league’s revival will see women’s games being played alongside men’s games for the first time in its history. With eight men’s teams and six women’s teams participating, the competition is bound to be intense.
Ahead of the on-field action, the auction is already generating buzz, with several high-profile players expected to go under the hammer. The auction for male players is scheduled for October 13 and 14, while the women’s auction will take place on October 15. This year, the HIL auction will feature over 1,000 athletes, both domestic and international. Specifically, the pool includes over 400 domestic men’s players, more than 150 overseas men’s players, over 250 domestic women’s players, and over 70 overseas women’s players. Each team is required to build a squad of 24 players, which must consist of 16 domestic players (including four mandatory junior players) and eight overseas players.
The auction will be streamed live worldwide on the Hockey India League’s official YouTube channel, allowing fans across the globe to follow the action in real-time. See the full list of sold players at HIL auction 2024.
