Mohammed Siraj has officially assumed the role of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). The fast bowler, who has represented Team India 89 times and lifted the T20 World Cup earlier in the year, has been awarded by the Telangana government.

Siraj isn’t the first cricketer to join the police. 2007 T20 World Cup winners, Joginder Sharma and Harbhajan Singh, both assume the role as well. Siraj is the second athlete who has joined the Telangana police in the last month, as boxer Nikhat Zareen was made DSP in October.
Telangana Chief Minister (CM) Anumula Revanth Reddy had previously announced that Siraj would receive a Group-I position. The promise has been fulfilled today as the CM gave his commitment to sports and athletes in the state.

With the 3-match Test series against New Zealand starting on October 16, Team India will link up in Bengaluru on October 12. Siraj, like other members of the red-ball side, has been resting. He wasn’t included in Bangladesh T20Is, which end on October 12, and is expected to reach Bengaluru today as the preparatory camp starts tomorrow.
