Fans forced to sit on ‘road’ at Sher-I-Kashmir Stadium during Jammu and Kashmir vs Maharashtra Ranji Match

Cricket is often called a gentleman’s game, but the experience for fans attending the Jammu and Kashmir vs Maharashtra Ranji Trophy match at the Sher-I-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar has been far from ideal.

Despite proper seating arrangements in the stadium, spectators were left to sit on dusty patches, with no water or washroom facilities available. The fans’ discomfort, however, didn’t dampen their spirit to witness a thrilling day of cricket.

Fans left without basic amenities at Sher-I-Kashmir Stadium

While the Sher-I-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar does have seating stands, the arrangements for this particular match left much to be desired. Several spectators voiced their displeasure as they were made to sit in uncomfortable, dusty conditions. “They made us sit here. It’s like we are sitting on a road,” one fan shared, expressing the frustration of many in attendance.

Basic amenities such as water and washrooms were also notably missing, adding to the inconvenience of the fans who had come to support their local team. Yet, their passion for the game kept them rooted at the venue.

Action on Field: Jammu and Kashmir vs Maharashtra

Amidst the seating issues, the game itself offered some exciting moments. Maharashtra captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and opted to bowl first, putting pressure on Jammu and Kashmir early on.

By the third session of Day 1, J&K had lost five wickets, but Shubham Khajuria stood firm, scoring an unbeaten century that brought cheer to the home fans, despite the off-field discomforts.

Call for better fan experience

Cricket fans are an essential part of the game, and it is important for authorities to ensure that their match-day experience is enjoyable.

Despite the challenges faced at the Sher-I-Kashmir Stadium, the fans’ dedication to supporting their team shows the love and passion they have for cricket. With proper facilities in place, their experience could match the thrill of the game itself, making each match day even more memorable.
