IPL 2025: The IPL mega auction returns after a gap of two years. While the date and the venue of the mega auction have yet to be finalized, media reports suggest that the auction will happen in November outside India. That said, the rules for the player retention and auction have been finalised at the September 28 meeting of the IPL governing council in Bengaluru. Let us check out what we know about the IPL mega auction 2025 so far.

All 10 teams will be allowed to retain a maximum of six players. These players can be five capped Indian or overseas players and two uncapped Indian players. The two uncapped players will be valued at ₹4 crore each and must be retained from their IPL 2024 squads.
IPL 2025 salary slabs
- Retained Player 1: Rs 18 crore
- Retained Player 2: Rs 14 crore
- Retained Player 3: Rs 11 crore
- Retained Player 4: Rs 18 crore

RTM card in IPL auction
A team that has retained six players will have no Right To Match (RTM) card available during the auction, while a team that has not retained any player will have six RTM cards.
A RTM card gives a team the advantage of getting one of its released players back during the auction by matching the highest bid. However, for the upcoming IPL mega auction, there is a change in the RTM rule.
Uncapped player rule in IPL
For this auction, the teams will have the advantage of retaining former India international players as uncapped players, but only if they have retired or have not played international cricket in five years.
