Star Indian badminton players have seen a drop in the latest BWF World Rankings, with PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy, and the men’s doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty falling in their categories. These top shuttlers are yet to make a comeback after their poor performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
HS Prannoy is currently taking a break from badminton due to ongoing injuries and health concerns. On the other hand, Lakshya Sen and PV Sindhu are gearing up to compete at the Arctic Open, which begins today. The men’s doubles pair of Satwik and Chirag had initially planned to participate in the Denmark Open next week but have now withdrawn.
Singles ranking overview
In men’s singles, Lakshya Sen is the highest-ranked Indian male shuttler at world number 19, while HS Prannoy sits at 24th but has a covered ranking of 17 due to his injury. Other Indian male shuttlers in the world’s top 40 include Priyanshu Rajawat (34), Kidambi Srikanth (38), and Kiran George (39).
PV Sindhu’s bid for improvement
PV Sindhu has dropped two places in women’s singles to rank 16 and will be eager to improve her position with a strong performance at the Arctic Open. Following her impressive showing at the China Open, Malvika Bansod has retained her place in the world’s top 40 at 37. Anmol Kharb has also made strides, moving into the world top 150 with a ranking of 141 after clinching two titles.
Men’s doubles decline
In men’s doubles, Satwik and Chirag have fallen to world number seven, down from their previous ranking of three when the Olympics concluded. Their withdrawal from the Denmark Open could result in further drops in their ranking.
Women’s doubles rankings
In women’s doubles, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa are the only Indian pair in the world’s top 20, currently ranked at 17. Meanwhile, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand are close behind at 21st.
