The India Women’s Cricket Team was handed a humiliating 58-run loss against New Zealand in their opening game of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. But the tournament is far from getting over. Ace batter Jemimah Rodrigues vows a strong comeback from her side heading into the remaining 3 games in the tournament.
India Women’s Cricket Team took on the Black Caps in the opening game. The Kiwis went on to score 160 runs batting first as India was tasked to chase a moderate target. But for India, the entire batting side collapsed and India was bowled out to a mere score of 102 runs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored the highest for her side with 15 runs to her tally.
Jemimah vows strong comeback
“Going forward I think we need to have the right approach because the tournament’s not over. We need to take some positives from this game and a lot of learnings from this game,” Jemimah Rodrigues said at the post-match press conference.
“We knew that any team will come hard at us, and I think they came out with a lot of intent. We did create opportunities, but unfortunately we didn’t make the most of it. I know with my game I’m ready to bat anywhere the team wants me. Today, because I was batting well, I had some form in the warm-up games, it was my responsibility to make sure we built a partnership after losing wickets,” she added.
Jemimah made it clear that the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup for India is far from getting over. She acknowledged that the Kiwis played better and India would be keen to take all the learning from this game. Furthermore, she took responsibility in claiming that she should have stepped up after the early wickets.
“Today would be the game we’d like to forget. This is a World Cup and we need to keep moving on and picking ourselves up – we can’t say stuck on this game. We need to pick ourselves up and show the character of this team,” Jemimah concluded.
India has 3 more group-stage matches remaining in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Up next, is the clash of the rivals as India takes on Pakistan on 6th October. India will then take on Sri Lanka on 9th October before taking on the mighty Aussies in their final group stage game on 13th October.
