Th Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly yet to have any official discussions with Mohammad Rizwan over taking over as the next white-ball captain

Troubles continue to mount for the Pakistan cricket team, with the latest reports suggesting that the PCB is yet to hold talks regarding captaincy with Mohammad Rizwan. Rizwan emerged as the frontrunner to become the next white-ball skipper, with many former cricketers backing the star to succeed Azam.

PCB yet to talk to Rizwan about Pakistan captaincy

As per Cricket Pakistan, no discussions have taken place so far between PCB and Rizwan regarding captaincy. The report also claims that the keeper-batter has not been invited to any meetings over the T20 World Cup debacle or the historic series loss to Bangladesh. Rizwan is expected to consider the captaincy offer carefully, even if he is offered the position and is likely to express his concerns over the treatments of captains before him, the report added.

Why did Babar Azam resign as Pakistan captain?

As per Cricket Pakistan, Babar Azam felt increasingly disconnected with his teammates following the T20 World Cup, forcing him to take the decision to step down as skipper. Additionally, the star batter also reportedly felt undervalued with the team. It is pertinent to point out that Babar was reinstated as the skipper just before the T20 WC after having stepped down from the role in 2023 after the ODI World Cup.

Babar Azam took to social media platform X to explain the rationale behind stepping down as skipper. He claimed that the burden of captaincy added to a significant change in his workload and expressed his interest to focus on his batting and form instead. Additionally, he said that the move was aimed at ensuring his personal growth while he vowed to continue contributing for the team across all formats of the game.
