Is trade window available in IPL 2025 mega auction?

And now that the IPL 2025 mega auction rules has been set, with many changes taking place, what about the trading window? Is it available?

The IPL 2025 auction rules have now been announced with changes, as many expected, including updates on retention rules and how RTM will work in this IPL. Amidst all these changes, people are curious about the trading window. Not long ago, news surfaced that KKR was looking to acquire Suryakumar Yadav from the Mumbai Indians via the trading window. However, that was merely a rumor. Also not only about SKY trade, but there were reports about a few teams targeting Rohit Sharma using trade window. But is that possible now? Well, not .

Is trading window available in IPL 2025 auction?

The reason why all the rumors mentioned are likely to be just rumors is because there is no chance of trading, as IPL trade rules clearly state that it cannot happen before a mega auction. And since the BCCI confirmed long ago that there would be a mega auction before IPL 2025, this puts a definitive end to the trade rumors. Players can only move to other teams via trade around the mini auction. After the upcoming IPL in 2025, we will have a mini auction, and we can expect the BCCI to allow franchises to trade players before IPL 2026.

What is trade window in IPL?

If we look at how the trade window works, it usually opens a month after the end of the IPL edition and remains open until a week before the IPL auction. The window reopens after the auction as well and ends a month before the start of the new season.

So, after IPL 2025, as mentioned, the trading window will open once again for the IPL 2026 season. One of the best trades that happened recently was when Hardik Pandya returned to MI in IPL 2024 from Gujarat Titans, but that trade didn’t succeed for them, as Hardik Pandya captained the franchise, and the team failed miserably under his leadership.

In 2023, IPL witnessed its biggest-ever trade when Hardik Pandya made his return to Mumbai Indians from Gujarat Titans via trade. MI traded Cameron Green to Royal Challengers Bengaluru to have enough purse for Hardik.
