When the Indian management decided to release Dhruv Jurel, one might have thought Ishan Kishan would be in trouble. The southpaw, who’d decided to skip participating in the domestic season earlier in the year, has been trying hard to make his way back to the Indian cricket team. The BCCI had already directed him and others that the only pathway was success in domestic cricket.
Is Ishan Kishan playing Irani Cup?
Ishan Kishan started his comeback trail in the Buchi Babu tournament and then scored a hundred in the Duleep Trophy 2024 and was subsequently named in ROI’s squad. In the meantime, Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir decided to give match time to Jurel, India’s 2nd choice wicketkeeper behind Rishabh Pant for the Irani Cup. Having said that, Ruturaj Gaikwad has managed to sneak in both Jurel and Ishan Kishan in the lineup against Mumbai in the ongoing Irani Cup.
ROI’s captain Gaikwad has also chosen Prasidh Krishna over Khaleel Ahmed, who did fantastically in the Duleep Trophy. Khaleel took 8 wickets in the two Duleep Trophy games for India A. Kishan is featuring in the team in place of Ricky Bhui, the top run-getter of the Ranji Trophy 2023/24 season with 902 runs. He even hammered 359 runs in the Duleep Trophy.
