At 13, Vaibhav Suryavanshi becomes youngest to score fifty in U-19 int’l cricket

Vaibhav Suryavanshi had made his first-class debut for Bihar in Ranji Trophy 2023, at 12, and went on to play two matches.

An Indian cricketer has shattered another record. No, it is not Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah or Yashasvi Jaiswal, but a certain 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who has now become the youngest in the world to score an international fifty at any level. The southpaw youngster, at 13y and 187d has surpassed Bangladesh’s Najmul Shanto, who had scored a fifty at 14y 231d vs Sri Lanka in 2013.

The next on the list is Hasan Raza from Pakistan, who had recorded a fifty plus score vs England in 1996. Meanwhile, Vaibhav’s score of 81 from 47 deliveries on Monday came for India U-19, who are playing a Test against Australia A at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, in Chennai.

On the first day of the match, the Aussie team, after batting first, scored 293. Aidan O Connor top-scored with 61 from 70 deliveries, while opener Riley Kingsell scored 53 from 77. As far as the Indian bowling is concerned, Samarth Nagaraj returned with figures of 3/49, while Mohammed Enaan scalped 3/48. In reply, India ended the day at 103/0.

Who is Vaibhav Suryavanshi?

The southpaw Vaibhav had first shot to fame last year, when he represented Bihar in the Ranji Trophy at 12. He went on to play 2 matches in the season scoring 31 runs, at an average of 7.75. As per various reports, Vaibhav is known to have hit 49 tons in a year, in age-group cricket.
