Knocking on Team India doors, Musheer Khan to miss out on Australia Tour and Ranji Games

Despite this unfortunate incident, Musheer Khan’s future in cricket remains bright. His recent performances have shown that he has the potential to excel at the highest level.

Musheer Khan, a promising young talent in Indian cricket, has suffered a major setback just as he was knocking on the doors of Team India. The 19-year-old Mumbai all-rounder, who had an outstanding first-class season, was set to join the India A team for a crucial tour of Australia. Unfortunately, Musheer’s dream was derailed by a road accident that resulted in a neck fracture, ruling him out of action for at least three months.

Stellar season cut short for Musheer Khan

Musheer Khan had an exceptional 2023-24 domestic season, with standout performances that included a double century in the Ranji Trophy quarter-final and a century in the final. He also made headlines with his 181-run knock for India B against a formidable India A bowling attack in the Duleep Trophy.

His ability to score big runs on significant occasions had made him a near-certain selection for the India A tour of Australia, where he was expected to face three ‘four-day’ Tests.

Misses out on Irani Cup and Ranji Trophy games

In addition to missing the India A’s tour of Australia, Musheer Khan will be absent from the upcoming Irani Cup match between Mumbai, the reigning Ranji champions, and Rest of India.

The injury will also keep him out of Mumbai’s early Ranji Trophy fixtures, with the season set to begin on October 11. Musheer was slated to open the innings alongside Prithvi Shaw in these crucial games.

Accident details and medical update of Musheer Khan

The accident occurred while Musheer Khan was travelling with his father from his hometown of Azamgarh to Lucknow for the Irani Cup. Their SUV (Toyota’s Fortuner) collided with a median, causing the vehicle to topple.

Musheer Khan suffered a fracture in the neck region but remains stable and conscious. He will be flown to Mumbai for further evaluation and treatment, with the timeline for his recovery yet to be determined.

Setback, but bright future ahead

Despite this unfortunate incident, Musheer Khan’s future in cricket remains bright. His recent performances have shown that he has the potential to excel at the highest level. While this injury may delay his journey, the cricketing world will be eagerly awaiting his return to the field
