Australia all-rounder Cameron Green has been ruled out of the England tour due to a back injury. That means, his chances for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy are in jeopardy for now. As per a report in ESPNCricinfo, Green’s injury status will be assessed thoroughly, when he returns to Perth.
Cameron Green in Doubt for Border Gavaskar Trophy
Meanwhile, the IND vs AUS Test series starts on November 22 in Perth, and that means Green is in race against time to be fit. The all-rounder’s injury surfaced during the third AUS vs ENG, where he picked up 2/45 and scored 45 with the bat. He had played the full T20I series before that.
Having said that, Australia will play another limited-overs series against Pakistan from November 4, before the Border-Gavaskar series starts. Former Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting told SkySports, that Green’s six-over burst of short-pitched bowling could have contributed to the injury.
“That could be significant,” former Australian captain Ricky Ponting said on Sky Sports commentary. We know with Cameron Green, he has had stress fractures in his back in the past. Let’s hope it’s not that. They still have the option of playing him as a batsman if it’s not too bad.”
