Dwayne Bravo, the legendary West Indian all-rounder is set to take on a new role as a mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2025, starting a new innings in his cricketing journey. The news came after his recent announcement from professional cricket on Friday. He was last playing in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) for Trinbago Knight Riders.
Bravo replaces Gambhir
Bravo will take over the mentor role from Gautam Gambhir, who recently became the head coach of the Indian team. Gambhir played a key role in guiding KKR to their third IPL title before stepping aside.
Second stint as coach in IPL
This marks Bravo’s second coaching assignment in the IPL. After being signed by Chennai Super Kings in 2011, he retired from the league following the 2022 season and became CSK’s bowling coach in 2023. His debut as a coach turned out to be successful when CSK defeated defending champions Gujarat Titans to win the IPL title that year.
Key role across all Knight Riders franchises
According to ESPNcricinfo, Bravo had discussions with KKR CEO Venky Mysore during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) before signing his contract. In addition to KKR, Bravo will be responsible for guiding all franchises under the Knight Riders banner, including Trinbago Knight Riders (CPL), Los Angeles Knight Riders (MLC), and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ILT20).
Broabo’s outstanding IPL career
The 20-year-old has played 161 matches in the IPL, where he scored 1560 runs and took 183 wickets. He’s one of T20 cricket’s top death bowlers and ranks third on the IPL’s all-time wicket-takers list. He is the only player in the league’s history to win two purple caps.
