Shubman Gill’s ‘Prince’ tag justified, has scored more hundreds than Ro-Ko in a decade: Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra reckons that Shubman Gill is running towards greatness and has drawn a parallel between the Prince and veterans Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra justified the ‘Prince’ tag given to batter Shubman Gill, claiming that he was better than Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the past decade. Chopra claimed that Gill was running towards greatness, adding that it was in his DNA. The prolific batter brought up his 5th Test hundred in IND vs BAN 1st Test in Chennai.

Shubman Gill the right successor for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma?

In a video on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra pointed out that Gill had scored 12 centuries in the last decade. He pointed out that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, had scored 10 centuries in the same time frame. He went on to claim that it wasn’t wrong to call Shubman Gill the ‘Prince’.

Rohit Sharma, in the same timeframe, has played 148 knocks and scored 10 centuries. Virat Kohli has played 149 knocks and scored 10 centuries and both of them are our GOATs (greatest of all times). So Shubman Gill is going far ahead with 12 centuries. We are not giving him the status of ‘Prince’ wrongly,” Aakash Chopra said.

After being dismissed for a duck in the 1st innings in Chennai, Gill redeemed himself with a sublime hundred in the 2nd innings. The number three batter joined hands with Rishabh Pant to torment the Bangladesh bowlers.

Gill potentially still has 8 innings to play at home and boosts his record at the number 3 position even more before the real challenge begins. In mid-November, Team India will travel to Australia for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Gill was one of the reasons why a depleted Indian side beat the Aussies in 2020-21 and won the series 2-1. But, back then, he was opening the innings and was playing his first Test series.
