Duleep Trophy: Arshdeep Singh responds to Test snub by claiming 6-wicket haul against India B

Another left-arm pacer, Yash Dayal, was selected ahead of Arshdeep for the India vs Bangladesh Test series.

Arshdeep Singh has responded to his snub in style. The left-arm pacer has ended the India D vs India B with the career-best figures of 29.2-7-90-9. Prior to this game, in 18 matches, Arshdeep had never taken more than 5 wickets in a match. In the second innings alone, the southpaw pacer took 6 wickets as he bowled 11.2 overs on the trot to dismiss India B for just 115 and helped his team win by 257 runs.

Arshdeep had already taken a 3-fer in the first innings, taking the prized wickets of Musheer Khan, Suryakumar Yadav and Nitish Kumar Reddy. This had helped India D claim a 67-run lead and basically ensured that they would win the match if it ended in a draw. However, nothing could compare to the 2nd innings masterclass he put on. The left-arm fast bowler got the first two wickets. First, inform Abhimanyu Easwaran and then Suyash Prabhudessai. He got Suryakumar once again and then cleaned up the tail as India B were bowled out in just 22.2 overs.

Arshdeep Singh’s snub

Arshdeep was getting looked upon as India’s next left-arm fast bowler after Zaheer Khan in Test cricket. The pacer from Punjab has already played two World Cups and has 62 caps to his name. The experience he has is ample, and his temperament in tough situations has stood out as well. It wasn’t exactly a shock that the selectors were looking at him as a viable option in Test cricket and were interested in taking him to Australia at the end of the year.

With Mohammed Shami unavailable, it was expected that Arshdeep Singh could get into the side for the India vs Bangladesh Test series. However, when the time came, Yash Dayal was selected ahead of him. Dayal had bowled really well in the Duleep Trophy 2024 and was picked ahead of him subsequently.
