As per recent reports, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are looking to retain their core Indian bunch before the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, the most surprising part of the news is the fact that the five-time champions might keep MS Dhoni as part of retention but with the lowest price category possible.
CSK to retain 5 players ft. Dhoni, Gaikwad
According to Revsportz journalist Shamik Chakrabarty, if BCCI will allow retention policy before the mega auction later this year, CSK will look to retain the following players. Probable CSK’s retentions as per reports
- Ruturaj Gaikwad
- Ravindra Jadeja
- Shivam Dube
- Matheesha Pathirana
- MS Dhoni
While these retention probables might be perfect for the Super Kings, the thing to notice is the fact that Dhoni could earn less bucks this time. Ever since the 2022 mega auction, Dhoni has been earning Rs 12 crore per season. However, even in that edition, he was the second-highest earner followed by Ravindra Jadeja (Rs 16 crore).
Dhoni has been purely participating in the IPL mostly as a wicket-keeper. He has reduced his role to just 10-15 balls per innings, and is not even expected to be part of the league for next 2-3 years. Hence, keeping him for the lowest price possible is a shrewd move by CSK.
