Premier League champions Manchester City arrive in India for trophy tour

Manchester City continues to impress on the field, currently topping the Premier League table with 12 points from four matches.

Manchester City, reigning champions of the Premier League, have touched down in India as part of their global Champions 4-in-a-Row Trophy Tour. After an extraordinary 2023/24 football season that saw them claim the Premier League title for the fourth consecutive time, the club has brought their silverware, including the Premier League, Club World Cup, and Community Shield trophies, to New Delhi.

The tour, presented by Etihad Airways, is designed to celebrate Manchester City’s historic achievement and connect with their fan base in India. The trophies will be on display for fans, giving them a unique opportunity to witness their club’s success up close.

Fan event and special screening

A major highlight of the visit is a special fan event scheduled for Sunday, 22nd September, at the Vegas Mall in New Delhi. Fans will not only get the chance to see the prestigious trophies but will also be treated to a live screening of Manchester City’s crucial Premier League match against Arsenal FC. Former Manchester City winger and England international, Shaun Wright-Phillips, will be present to engage with fans, sharing insights from his illustrious career and interacting with City supporters.

While attendance is on a first-come, first-served basis, fans are encouraged to pre-register for the event through Manchester City’s official website.

Shaun Wright-Phillips, a Manchester City legend, expressed his excitement about the club’s return to India. “We’re really looking forward to visiting India as part of the Club’s Champions 4-in-a-row tour,” Wright-Phillips said. “The club visited last year, and we’re excited to interact with our fan base in India again, especially as we bring the Premier League, Club World Cup, and Community Shield Trophies around the world.”

Wright-Phillips also highlighted the significance of the match against Arsenal, inviting fans to join the special screening and cheer for City.

Grassroots Coaching Initiative in India

In addition to the trophy celebrations, Manchester City is also giving back to the local community by offering a free coaching course for grassroots football coaches. The initiative aims to upskill over 150 community coaches in five cities, promoting healthier lifestyles through football. This programme is part of Manchester City’s broader commitment to fostering the development of football at the grassroots level and leaving a lasting legacy in the communities they visit.
