No KL Rahul to RCB yet! Why LSG skipper can’t be traded before IPL 2025 mega auction

KL Rahul triggered speculations of his move from LSG to RCB ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, that move is impossible. For now, at least

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul recently triggered speculations of his potential move to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for IPL 2025. The Karnataka batter, who was once a part of RCB, expressed his desire to return to the franchise ahead of the next season while responding to a fan’s query. However, Rahul’s desired move is impossible, at least until the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Why KL Rahul can’t be traded to RCB yet

As per BCCI rules, no team is allowed to trade players before the mega auction. It is pertinent to point out that the trading window that opens before the auction is only applicable if there is a mini-auction. Given that there is a mega auction before IPL 2025, KL Rahul’s only chance of moving to RCB is if he is retained by LSG following which the team decides to go for the trade option and let him be a part of the auction.

Essentialy, this means that Rahul and RCB will have to wait till the mega auction in order to complete the move. As per reports, the franchises have time till November 15 to decide on the retentions.

KL Rahul’s desire to return to RCB

KL Rahul, who was a part of the opening round match of the Duleep Trophy, was greeted by ‘KL KL’ chants at the Chinnaswamy stadium. A video of a fan asking KL if he wished to return to RCB went viral, triggering speculations about the potential move. In addition to this, Rahul’s animated chat with Sanjeev Goenka following a thrashing at the hands of SRH in IPL 2024 led to rumours of the batter wanting to part ways with the franchise, although there have been mixed statements over the incident from both the player and the owner.

I am a die-hard RCB fan. I have been following RCB for a very long, and you playing past in RCB, and now definitely the rumours; I won’t say anything. But yeah, I am just wishing and praying that you come into RCB and rock here,” the fan said, to which KL replied by saying, “Let’s hope so.
