Unbeaten India advance to Asian Champions Trophy final with 4-1 win over South Korea

India advanced to their sixth final at the Asian Champions Trophy with a 4-1 win over South Korea. Harmanpreet Singh scored twice in a stellar performance.

The Indian hockey team advances to their sixth final at the Asian Champions Trophy. The defending champions defeated South Korea 4-1 in the second semifinal at Hulunbuir, China. Uttam Singh and Jarmanpreet Singh each scored a goal, while Harmanpreet Singh netted a brace in the semifinal. The Pairs Olympics bronze medallist will play against the hosts China in the finals.

Uttam Singh opens the scoring

Uttam Singh scored the first goal in the final minute of the first quarter. Later, Harmanpreet Singh added to the tally with a penalty corner conversion in the sixth minute of the second quarter and then scored a field goal in the second minute of the third quarter. Harmanpreet Singh’s second field goal came in the final minutes of the third quarter. India played exceptionally well, scoring three field goals in the match.

Harmanpreet vs Jihun Yang

It was a tough battle at the Asian Champions Trophy. Jihun Yang is the top goal scorer in the tournament with 8 goals, while Harmanpreet Singh is second with 7 goals. Jihun scored a goal today, maintaining his lead. However, Harmanpreet scored twice in this match. Now, both teams have one match remaining, which will decide the top goal scorer of the tournament.

Korea’s comeback attempt

Korea made a comeback in the third quarter with a goal from a penalty corner. Although Korea struggled in the first two quarters, they improved in the last two quarters, trying to attack and create chances in the circle. India’s strong defensive performance effectively limited South Korea’s scoring opportunities.

India Remains unbeaten at ACT 2024

India is the only unbeaten team in the tournament, having convincingly defeated China 3-0, Japan 5-1, Malaysia 8-1, Korea 3-1, and Pakistan 2-1.
