Harry Brook to lead in ENG vs AUS ODIs as Jos Buttler ruled out, Liam Livingstone added to squad

Harry Brook now becomes only the 37th player to lead England in One-Day Internationals.

England will field a new captain in the upcoming 3-match one-day international series against Australia. Harry Brook, a rising star in English cricket, has been appointed to lead the team in the absence of the injured Jos Buttler.

Buttler injured, Brook the new captain for ENG vs AUS

Buttler, who has been sidelined since the T20 World Cup semi-final against India in June, has suffered a persistent calf injury that has prevented him from returning to competitive action. His absence has opened the door for Brook to take on the captaincy role, who has previously captained England in the Under-19 setup. Brook even led the Northern SuperChargers in this year’s Hundred.

This is not the first time England has had to cope with injuries in recent months. Ollie Pope stepped in as captain for the Test series against Sri Lanka when Ben Stokes was ruled out due to a hamstring injury, while Phil Salt has taken over the T20 captaincy duties from Buttler.

Liam Livingstone in, Josh Hull out!

The 20-year-old left-arm seamer, Josh Hull, who made his Test debut at the Oval earlier this month, was initially set to be part of the 50-over squad. However, he has picked up a quad injury and will now rest in ENG vs AUS ODIs. However, England remain hopeful for his participation in Pakistan vs England Tests later this year.

Liam Livingstone, who was initially dropped from the ODI squad, has been recalled after his impressive performances in the recent T20 series against Australia. Livingstone’s inclusion in the team comes on the back of his outstanding contributions with both bat and ball. He has taken five wickets in six overs with his leg-breaks and scored 87 off 47 in the second T20I, helping England secure a much-needed victory.
